Safety is Our # 1 Goal

At Civil Works, we are committed to the highest standards of safety performance possible. We develop an organized and effective safety program for every phase of every project. We evaluate and reevaluate risks inherent in every activity performed every day down to the level of every crew. We recognize the achievements, not only of those who directly supervise projects with outstanding safety records, but of all employees at all levels who are in any way responsible for safety, their own or the person working next to them. Providing a safe work environment is every employee’s responsibility, every subcontractor’s responsibility, and Civil Work’s first priority. Adherence to safety policies is a condition of employment.

Our safety program complies with all federal, state, and local regulations, with emphasis on the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements for construction operations. We require that all supervisors, from foremen to project managers, remain current in the OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach Program, as a constant reminder of the nature of the hazards faced on the job daily. We also regularly schedule formal field and classroom training in all necessary safety standards – fall protection, excavations, confined space access, forklift, aerial lift, and crane operation are a few examples. Our corporate safety department is staffed with trained and certified experts whose tasks are training and follow-up, with constant field interaction, intervention, and mentoring to ensure that everyone at every level on our projects understands, supports, and enforces our safety philosophy and policies.

As a result, our Experience Modification Rating and Total Recordable Incident Rate is one of the lowest in the industry.
