The NCDOT Bridge over Smith Creek has been a challenging Bridge demolition and construction project that Civil Works Contracting has been working on over the last year. The project will consist of complete demolition of the existing bridge, which was comprised of 168’ long steel swing bridge built in the 1930s, and two fixed concrete spans. The new bridge will consist of 3 fixed spans, with the longest being 102’ over the middle of the creek and totaling 263’. It will have a widened concrete roadway with a pedestrian sidewalk and bike lane. It will bring the new bridge up to current federal and DOT regulations and will be safe for the traveling public for many years to come. Completion of this project is projected for April 2023.
