Civil Works Contracting, in partnership with Stamped Ventures and Eagle Eye Electric, proudly executed a comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation project for the U.S. Army at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield (HAAF). This initiative stemmed from a full-scale facility inspection conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which identified critical infrastructure needs across the base’s 22-mile rail network—19 miles at Fort Stewart and 3 miles at HAAF.

CWC was responsible for developing and implementing the project scope based on the inspection findings. The work included the furnishing and installation of 3,500 composite crossties and 161 composite switch ties, along with the adjustment and lubrication of 30 track switches. Extensive track cleaning operations covered 1,900 track feet of flangeway, and the demolition of four turnout crossovers was also performed. Additional work included bolt tightening and/or replacement, as well as 4,819 track feet of track gauging to ensure rail alignment and safety.

The rehabilitation of ten road crossings was completed to modern standards, along with signal upgrades to support train speeds of up to 30 MPH. CWC also installed two new pedestrian crossings, rehabilitated two concrete loading ramps, and reconstructed one concrete heavy haul access road to facilitate military logistics.

The project included the placement and dressing of 4,200 net tons of No. 4A granite railroad ballast and the full removal and reconstruction of 660 feet of railroad track. CWC upgraded switch stands and switch stand ties on 30 switches, and replaced 23 sections of defective 115RE rail to maintain operational integrity. Structural repairs were made to a ballast deck bridge, including rehabilitation of end bents and wing walls.

All work was carefully scheduled and executed to avoid any disruption to ongoing train operations, ensuring uninterrupted logistical support for the Army’s mission.
